Gwendolyn- She’s the Cutest
I met this 2-year-old girl on Tuesday at the meeting. She was adorable. I mean it. Really. She had a little cast on her arm. It was in a tiny little sling. Some kids are too cute to be true. Yes I think thats how the saying goes.
Let me tell ya somethin.
Generally, disagreements seem to create such implied hostility. Those involved and sometimes even onlookers are, put on edge, if I may use the expression. Politely disagreeing with someone is such a great way to not be easily swayed by the opinions of others. However, this too I have noticed occurring: Some will simply disagree because they thought of it as a thing to do. For some, and at times myself as well, it seems fitting to generate a quickly thought up opposing opinion rather than really consider agreement. After this takes place the mental block that is in place seems unconquerable. Much like the city of Troy. And in a similar vein of comparison I believe a Trojan horse type statement could be used to uproot such a façade of an opinion. Who am I to judge and opinion as a façade though? It is a more optimistic approach than concluding that one is simply as dumb as they have made themselves out to be. Not that I do that on a regular basis. But some opinions are founded on such apparent absurdity that for anyone to genuinely adhere to them in application is like a child covering their eyes and believing they cannot be seen. It is based on a lack of comprehension. A lack of understanding.
Haha, where on earth or should I say where in my mind did that come from? It was supposed to be a light hearted digestion of why people get so touchy when someone disagrees with them. Like how it’s hard to take a polite disagreement. It just makes stuff awkward. Especially when you really think you’re on to something. What I ended up with was almost as absurd as what I was talking about. That’s like get one get one free if you ask me. My kinda deal.
Sincerely I disagree, no really I can take criticism, I just don’t think that to be a valid point.

Here’s what I think. I don’t really think that polite disagreement is workable. It may be polite in your eyes but it is confrontational anyway. People feel like they need to make a defense for themselves. Here’s what I have seen you do before: Politely disagree. Then be quiet. But, that gives the impression that you think that the person with whom you disagree is an idiot. That’s just how it comes across. Here’s something you might try: Neither agree nor disagree…make no comment or make some ambiguous comment like, “I can see how someone might think that” and then leave it.
I’ve seen circuit overseers do that in the past. Worls great. Win, Win situation.
