Songs About Books

While I was expending my vital energy today at the Silver Spurs Arena, I heard about four bombs that went off in London. Unsettling news.

Then there is this matter of Hurricane Dennis. Whether it will prove to really be a menace to Central Floridians or not I do not know. It is just in time for the conventions to start at the Silver Spurs Arena though.

Steve Martin is a wild and crazy guy.

I reconfirmed my growing dislike of movie viewing in comparison with game playing. Personally I much prefer playing a game with people over watching a movie with them. While movies are enjoyable and often contribute to a good time, I find that it does little to develop my ability to be social.

I enjoy it when a musician I am a fan of, references literature that I am fond of. It makes for a most enjoyable listening experience. I think it’s because when people write about what happened to them, I can barely relate. But if they write about something they read, that I have read, well now its much closer to being a shared experience. I can see much more clearly the reasons for their words. Not fully, just more. Songs about Books; a winner. Enjoyable.

System of a Down has a song all about the legend of zelda.

I don’t know… I would argue the opposite. Often times people feel that if they give specific instances, then they will alienate their audience. Most people also feel that if you write more generic stuff for a broader audience, then it will be enjoyed more.

Upon closer examination, it is really the opposite. How many “greeting cards” do you remember? I’d wager that you don’t remember any of their words, because they are generic. They are meant to fit a million circumstances. There is no: “I hope you recover from your seemingly spontaneous appendix explosion” … there is just, “hope you get well soon”.

It’s generic, it is not relatable and very forgettable.

Sadly, a lot of songs usually follow the generic route, and often times rhyme just to rhyme.

Perhaps upon further examination, the songs you are thinking about will reveal themselves as simply generic and ambiguous.

If I got a card when I was in the hospital that said “I hope you recover from your seemingly spontaneous appendix explosion”, I would keep that forever. Not throw them away the second the person who gave them to me left the room……I mean keep forever and ever. Or maybe I just missed the entire point of your post seeing as how it’s 2 am. In conclusion, I agree with sophie.

I was thinking of writing a love song that goes:

“Oooh, I love you ________insert name here_______”

I would leave blank spots throughout the song for listeners and sing alongers to add things that relater personally.

I think it would be a HIT!!!

That is sooo funny, TWM. I am still laughing. You should definitely do that. It would be interesting when it got to the sing-along part and you hear, “oooh, I love you (jumbled up sound from everyone inserting name).” I think that could be memorable!!

as long as the song contains the words “smooth, real smooth” it would be a hit… that’s for you tom
