Bridge Pictures

On the way home from Jereme’s house last night I stopped off at the I-4 pedestrian bridge in Lake Mary to take some pictures.

You can’t park right next to the bridge so I used my new deck to skate down there. Pretty fun deck I realized, super fast. It’s a little strange trying to book it on a board while holding a tripod and camera bag and water and a book but I survived.

Pictures turned out significantly crappy though. But I’m happy that I did it. Felt good to do something I wanted to do, and be creative. Even if what I made wasn’t that good. It’ll get better. I think early morning would be a cool time to do some shots of Lake Monroe, with fog and such.

I learned how to knit! (you can learn to knit). It’s pretty neat. I’ve taken apart my scarf three times or so but now I think it’s good to keep going. There are few different knitting techniques and I was trying them out in quick succession. This got a little confusing so I am just going to stick with the basic garter knit for now, which you knit both sides instead of alternating between purling and knitting.

I also went to the store and got some bamboo knitting needles and I like them. I think I may switch to using the circle knitting needles but I’ve yet to figure that out yet.

Oh and if you didn’t know, they even have luxury yarns! Cashmere even! But I’m waiting to invest in that till I can knit something worth it.

There are also extreme knitters these days. One group of them plays a game, the name of which I can’t remember, but it sort of like this: People register on some website or something, and they put their address and sock size. Then they pick someone to “kill” that is also a player in the game. The way you “kill” someone is to knit them a pair of socks in their size and mail them to them. When they receive the socks, they are “dead”. So the fastest knitters can “kill off” everyone else, last one alive wins. Your socks are in the mail!

My New Skateboard

So I designed my own skateboard today.

I found my lens

Recently I’ve been trying to take more pictures. I really like having a dSLR. It’s so much fun to actually have some control over how a picture turns out. At the same time I don’t spend a cent on developing film. I average about 400 pictures every time I take my camera somewhere. 92% of those are terrible and not worth looking at. But I think that percentage will keep going down.

I’ve been kind of intimidated by the idea of buying another lens. There are so many different things to consider. Especially difficult for me since I know so little about what would help me take better pictures. Vi mentioned getting a lens with a bigger aperture. I didn’t even know what that was at the time, but now that I’ve been doing some checking I think that is exactly what I will do. Canon 50mm f/1.4. Low light, selective focus, bang!

On another note, I joined an open source project. It’s a fork of activeCollab 0.71. I’m excited!

Nice End to Bad Beginings

From black to white in a week.

I love photography. I hate not being a good photographer. Love will prevail. Pictures will be good. (Got any EF/AF SLR lenses you’d like to sell?)

Seems to be the time of moving.

Went and saw The Collective on Saturday night. Almost skipped it. I’m glad I went. Nice photo op. Plus a good show.

On the way way home I some how managed to rip the plastic guard off the underside of Vi’s car. I tried to rip it off by hand but no dice. I then tried to reverse over it a few times to rip it off. No dice. I decided I couldn’t do anything about it and just kept driving home. A few minutes later I got pulled over because the car was, “throwing sparks out behind it”. oops… So I then spent the next 45-60 minutes in front of a church off Mills in downtown Orlando trying to rip off incredibly strong plastic with one hand while my face was rubbing on the concrete and trying to keep an eye out for anyone sneaking up on me to bash me. Ripped most of it off and successfully got caked in grease in the process. Cut the rest off with tin-snips when I got home. Sorry. I’ll to try and get a new one of those I guess.

Power steering went out on my car on Friday. NICE!

Lord Lucan Is Missing

Breaking into a new job. I really wonder if that is even possible for myself. At times I seem to demonstrate the capability to learn things and even do well at them. However, I run into a large amount of frustration with my utter lack of follow through on such so called potential. Today was a prime example. I awoke after fully exhausting my ability to sleep. So one would think I’d be really ready for a mental challenge having sufficiently achieved REM and cycled all the way into Delta sleep. My dreams were vivid. Excellent I thought, now I’m ready to write that cover letter and tweak my resume in hopes of getting an interview. HA! Little did I remember that I don’t follow through. After staring at my cover letter for 4 hours and writing and deleting the first paragraph about 15 times, I decided I could better spend my time actually coding a site. So I began working on a site. After I got so frustrated with my attempts at inserting a random header image with php, something I had previously achieved in another site, I began working on something more static. After fighting for a few hours with my side bar and content position I finally got them to display almost like the design called for. That would feel like an accomplishment, except that I had previously learned how to do that very same thing some 3 or 4 times. But, I forgot. GREAT!

It seems that Thursday is Kevin’s day to go insane. Yep, once again this afternoon I felt insane. Genuinely crazy. That’s fantastic. You know, the other night, two separate people came up to me and let me know they ran into one of my brothers. One had seen him in jail. The other, had seem him in a fire station just after he had been let out of jail. That’s great. I can’t wait for my turn. I’m gonna have to figure something out for Thursdays, because I can’t take this going crazy business. It’s too tempting.

I wish I’d been around when you started this

So I want to learn to illustrate using vector graphics. Inkscape is a Open Source SVG program that I started using. It’s still very much in the development stages, but I am so far impressed with what it does have to offer. Primarily the fact that it’s FREE. But I’ve got further left to go, and hopefully it wont take forever.

I was hoping around ebay this morning pricing out ‘damaged’ Macbooks. That was entertaining.

Got turned down for an auto loan. It’s probably for the best.

The sons of Issachar, don’t mess with them.

The word ‘lad’ is going to be added to my active vocabulary.

I am privileged to have some really amazing people as friends.

CODE CODE CODE… DESIGN DESIGN DESIGN… CODE CODE CODE…

“No hurt. Plently fight. Stay small time, den go.”

Have you ever felt as if you are consciously choosing to stay sane? I felt like that yesterday. That is, in my book, a development that should be documented. I feel such would be very helpful if I ever made the alternate decision. Pray the future doth not merit such measures.

I think reading is one of the healthiest things I can do. In particul-ARE, as Tavis Smiley would say, with regard to my mental health. I am also convinced that I need to get things out of my head whether by writing them, painting them, building them, photographing them or some other creative expression. It seems over the course of a few weeks without creative expression my mind becomes so muddled up I cannot find a sufficient focus or be content with what I find to occupy my time, no matter how important the current task might be, I feel an overwhelming need to do ’something’ else. There is likely some more trite way to describe that while being all that much more authoritative. I guess that’ll be progress when I find it.

I started the planning stage of KevinNMurphy.com v1.5 PRO. That is what I’m calling the redesign of my professional web identity. I’m also currently working on a redesign for ‘Couple Grammes of Soma’ which I have now given the moniker ‘Kevin N. Murphy at his Leisure’. That will be my more personal blog. I’m currently in the planning stage of ‘ThomasMooreMusic.net’. Bear in mind that when I say ‘planning’ I mean the setting up of the technical stuff, virtual servers, DNS administration, domain registration, WP2.1 installs, and then realizing that it helps to have a plan before trying to code or design stuff. I’ll learn this trade somehow, even if it is the hard way.
